Slaton Shooting Survivor Jasmine Rivas Continues Recovery

When a routine week turned into a life-changing moment for 24-year-old Jasmine Rivas, her world shifted overnight.


Jasmine is a devoted single mother to her 6-year-old son. After surviving the recent Slaton shooting, she underwent reconstructive surgery to her lower jaw and is currently recovering with the help of a feeding tube. Doctors say her healing will be long and will involve multiple treatments, medications, and follow-up care.


While Jasmine concentrates on getting stronger, the financial reality has quickly become overwhelming. At the time of the incident she did not have medical insurance and has been unable to work while she recovers. Between medical bills, prescriptions, and everyday needs, the expenses are stacking up for her and her young son.
