LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock ISD announced Thursday afternoon that it will cancel all classes on Friday, Jan. 23, citing winter weather conditions and concerns over potentially hazardous roadways across Lubbock.

District officials said all LISD campuses and administrative offices will be closed for the day. While students will not attend classes, district employees will participate in a planning day and work remotely from home.

The decision was made as freezing temperatures and winter weather continue to impact travel conditions throughout the city. LISD emphasized that the safety of students, families, and staff remains the district’s top priority.

To ensure students still have access to meals, LISD will provide curbside meal distribution from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday. Meals will be available at four high school locations across the district. Students are not required to be present to receive meals, but those picking up food should be prepared to provide the student’s home campus information.

Meal pickup locations include:
 • Coronado High School, 4910 29th Dr., Door 26
 • Estacado High School, 1504 E Itasca St., Door 23
 • Lubbock High School, 2004 19th St., Door 8
 • Monterey High School, 3211 47th St., Door 20

District leaders are urging families and staff to avoid unnecessary travel, remain indoors when possible, and take precautions to stay safe and warm during the winter weather.

LISD also reminded parents and employees that all official communication regarding weather related closures, delays, or early dismissals will be sent directly through district email and text notifications. Updates will also be posted on the district’s official website and verified social media channels. Officials cautioned residents to rely only on confirmed district sources, noting that information shared elsewhere may be inaccurate.

The district said it will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed.
