In the Cold, Lubbock ISD Shows Its Heart by Making Sure No Student Goes Without a Meal

While winter weather made travel difficult across Lubbock, one thing remained constant: the care and commitment of Lubbock Independent School District to its students and families.

Early Thursday morning, cafeteria teams and support staff showed up with smiles, warm food, and open hearts, offering curbside meal pick ups so students would not miss breakfast or lunch. Between 10 and 11 a.m., families were welcomed at four high school campuses where staff had already been hard at work preparing meal bags with intention and care.

Inside school kitchens, employees packaged meals, shared laughs, and moved with purpose, knowing their work mattered. Outside, families were able to stay safely in their vehicles while being handed food for their children, no questions asked beyond a home campus name. It was simple, efficient, and full of humanity.

Pickup locations included Coronado, Estacado, Lubbock High, and Monterey High Schools, each one staffed by people who understand that for some students, these meals mean stability, comfort, and reassurance during uncertain days.

Lubbock ISD also recognized the dedication of its nutrition teams and Aramark staff, whose behind the scenes efforts often go unseen but never unfelt. In moments like this, the district showed that school is not just about classrooms. It is about community, compassion, and showing up for one another when it matters most.

In the middle of cold temperatures and icy conditions, Lubbock ISD delivered something just as important as food. They delivered care.
