Family Selling Plates To Help Lay Joe Ybarra Jr. To Rest After North Lubbock Shooting

A Lubbock family is asking the community for support after the tragic death of Joe Ybarra Jr., 27, who was killed in a Sunday morning shooting in North Lubbock.

According to local reports, Lubbock Police were called around 12:35 a.m. Sunday to the 700 block of North Ithaca Avenue for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found Ybarra Jr. with multiple gunshot wounds outside an apartment complex. He was taken to UMC, where he later died. No arrests had been made as of the latest update, and the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating.  

Loved ones are now trying to raise money to help lay him to rest. In a post shared online, family and friends described Joe as someone with a beautiful heart, a respectful spirit, and a smile that could light up a room.

Plates will be sold for $15 and will include 3 sour cream chicken enchiladas, rice, beans, and a dessert. They are expected to start getting plates out around lunch time and will deliver for anyone purchasing 2 or more plates. Cash and Cash App will be accepted, with donations also being welcomed. The family is asking the community to share the post, pray for them, and help in any way possible as they prepare to lay Joe to rest. They are also asking anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000. Information leading to an arrest and/or conviction could be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
