Abernathy ISD leader chosen to carry on LCISD’s strong legacy

LUBBOCK, TX — After a months-long search marked by community input and careful deliberation, the Lubbock-Cooper ISD Board of Trustees has named Aaron Waldrip as the Lone Finalist for the role of Superintendent of Schools.

Mr. Waldrip, who currently serves as Superintendent of Abernathy ISD, brings nearly two decades of experience in education, with 14 of those years in leadership roles. A proud graduate of Texas Tech University, he has consistently championed student achievement, technology innovation, school safety, and community engagement across his career.

Trustees say his understanding of LCISD’s close-knit culture, coupled with his proven leadership and dedication to family-first values, made him the clear choice.

“Aaron Waldrip’s passion for education and people is undeniable,” said Board President Paul Ehlers. “We are excited for him to lead this district into its next chapter while honoring what makes LCP so unique.”

Mr. Waldrip and his wife Ashley have three school-aged children who will join the LCISD student body. Beyond the classroom, he’s also known for his work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and dedication to youth sports.

Pending a state-required 21-day waiting period, Waldrip will officially take the reins following the retirement of longtime superintendent Keith Bryant, who has led LCISD for the past 11 years.
